Introduction to Agile Principles and the Scrum Framework

Learn important Agile principles, practices, challenges and benefits. You will also learn the popular Scrum framework - all this in just one day! You will learn the theory and, most importantly, work on an interactive simulation to really understand what working in an Agile way looks like.

Description

This fantastic one-day course will help you understand Agile principles and what it means to work 'in an Agile way'.  You will learn how it applies to any project, not just software. You will also learn the most popular Agile framework, Scrum.

Scrum is a lightweight, iterative and incremental Agile framework for managing complex work.  A key aspect of Scrum is the recognition that customers will change their minds about what they want or need (often called requirements volatility) and that there will be unpredictable challenges—for which a predictive or planned approach is not suited.

One of the biggest myths associated with Agile and Scrum is that these are only applicable to technology or IT projects.  This is unfortunate because it is the nature of the initiative that you work on that drives which approach is needed, not the industry area.  We will talk about how Agile and the Scrum Framework are used for in some of these areas (not all-inclusive):

  • Human Resources
  • Marketing
  • Sales
  • Technology
  • Engineering
  • Facilities

As such, Scrum adopts an evidence-based empirical approach — accepting that the problem cannot be fully understood or defined up front, and instead focusing on how to maximise the team's ability to deliver quickly, to respond to emerging requirements, and to adapt to evolving technologies and changes in market conditions.
